I hear many people around me talking about not being able to hear the Holy Spirit.
Many Christians do not hear the Holy Spirit. This is not because the Holy Spirit does not speak to them, but because they do not recognize the way in which the Holy Spirit speaks to them.
Most people expect to hear the Holy Spirit audibly. From experience, I can tell you that you don’t always hear the Holy Spirit with your ears. I usually hear the Holy Spirit in my heart, sometimes I get a clear picture of what He wants to share with me. This can depend on the situation I am in at that moment. And this is different for everyone, of course.
In my immediate circle, I have multiple Christians who express that they still do not hear from God. This includes my husband, Kevin. After giving his heart to Jesus so many years ago, he still says that he has never heard the Holy Spirit speak to him. This is because he expects to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit audibly. However, he certainly hears from the Holy Spirit, who guides him. I would like to share an example of this.
Our youngest son, Joshua, plays soccer and transferred to a different soccer club this year. I should mention that he has had the opportunity to do internships at several professional soccer organizations (BVO) over the past year. He has not (yet) been accepted by a BVO club, but scouts from such clubs are still following him. They regularly come and watch his soccer games. We have therefore properly informed the professional football organizations of the transfer to the new club.

Last Sunday, Kevin came in and announced that he had sent a message to the contact person at a certain professional football organization, because he was sure that there was an invitation for Joshua to start a program, but that he was certain that this invitation had been sent to the old club.
The contact person responded immediately to Kevin’s message and thanked him for reminding him about Joshua’s transfer, which he had indeed not properly administered. He also said that he had sent an invitation for a new program to Joshua’s old club some time ago and was wondering why there had been no response. (Apparently, the old club did not think it was necessary to inform them that Joshua had transferred). When Kevin and I sat on the bed in the evening and talked about the day, he said that he knew something had gone wrong in the processing of Joshua’s transfer and that he was also aware that an invitation for something had been sent.
This is not the only instance in which Kevin hears from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guides him in all things. He is a man led by the Holy Spirit. We had to realize that the Holy Spirit speaks to us in different ways, but that He communicates with us at all times.
Let this be an encouragement that the Holy Spirit also communicates with you. It may not be in the way you are used to or find common.
Go back to your “Prayer Room” and make time to talk to the Holy Spirit and give Him space to answer you. Give Him space to respond to what you ask of Him.
Keep in mind that the Holy Spirit is loving and gentle. He does not overshout, as the world does. Make sure you create space for Him to respond, especially if you are not yet accustomed to the way He communicates with you.
You will see that as soon as you invest in all of the above and learn to recognize His voice, you will hear Him in everything.
“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. John 15:26
