You know the times when you have a whole laundry list of things to get done, only to end up not finishing anything on your list? Coincidentally the neighbor’s cat is getting kittens, your favorite show is on television at an unusual time, your best friend is at the door to surprise you. I could make the list longer but you get my point!
Have you ever considered where these distractions come from?
In the natural, this distraction seems quite innocent of course. How could your best friend possibly know that you had some important tasks on the agenda, after all she is there to surprise you.
Your favorite television show suddenly airs at a different time, you can’t miss a minute of it so you have to sit down for it. Coincidentally, just when you were waiting for the climax.
You’ve never been interested in cats, but how wonderful and beautiful it is that a life comes into the world. A delivery like this is not to be missed.
These seem like innocuous situations in themselves…right?
In the spirit, these situations are not as innocent as they seem.
Consider to yourself: when mainly do situations occur in which you are distracted from important tasks?
In my case, this said distraction always comes at the point of a major breakthrough. At the point of breakthrough in my career, for example, in the form of promotion or when I am facing a spiritual breakthrough.
It took me 30-plus years to recognize this kind of distraction. Pretty long if you ask me, but finally recognizing these distractions was not the biggest challenge. My biggest challenge was really stopping the distraction. Ignoring the denouement in my favorite TV show. Realizing that new life is beautiful but can also be seen on the internet. Saying no to your best friend who, with all her good intentions, shows up on your doorstep for some qtt.
