Oftentimes, we have a role model in our lives.
But are we sure they are displaying the right behavior?
Example:
Years ago, my husband and I had friends who are slightly older than us.
This loving couple continually emphasized that they were great role models to us and that we looked up to them tremendously.
I consistently continued to deny this. My husband and I certainly drew lessons from some of the situations they were going through, but we never saw them as real role models.
The couple often expressed irritation when we denied seeing them as role models.
Despite our multiple denials, they persisted in insisting that they were our great example.
At the time, I wasn’t very familiar with the power of words, but I knew that I shouldn’t give in.
Now many years later…
The couple is currently going through a divorce.
The news of the separation saddened me for a while, because in my experience, they belong together like peanut butter and jelly.
But the point I want to make is that you should not look up to man, man can disappoint you. Imagine if we had agreed with their statements and we had looked up to the couple, had followed their example, we could probably end up in a similar situation to them, (a divorce).
Therefore, be vigilant about the things you are agreeing to!
How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God. John 5:44
